About

Established in 2003, Power Electronics NZ Ltd is a locally owned supplier of world leading AC motor control products – variable speed drives and soft starters, utility scale solar inverters, EV chargers and innovative power quality solutions. 

Our variable speed drives, soft starters, EV chargers, STATCOM and solar inverters are designed and manufactured by Power Electronics Spain in state of the art facilities in Valencia. Our power quality products consisting of static var generators (STATCOM) and active harmonic filters are designed and manufactured by the innovative Chinese company Sinexcel.

At Power Electronics we believe in building strong relationships, helping our customers through the complete product life cycle, from selection and electrical system design through to commissioning assistance and after sales service and support. We have built a strong reputation as being customer service orientated – all of our front line staff are experts in the field of inverter based products.

Power Electronics Spain is a privately owned company with immense internal strength and stability provided by the Salvo family since its incorporation in 1987. Founded by Don Alberlardo Salvo Babiloni, Power Electronics is an innovate manufacturer of AC motor control products, EV chargers and has grown to become a world leader in solar inverters and the global leader in battery energy storage inverters. The 100,000m2 Valencia based facility is capable of producing more than 30GW of products annually. 

Sinexcel is a GEM (high-tech-based) listed company with stock code 300693, headquartered in Shenzhen. With a modern manufacturing facility covering 14,000m2, Sinexcel is the global technology leader in harmonic mitigation and reactive power compensation through their active harmonic filters and static VAR generators. 

Our management has strong personal relationships with the founders and directors of both businesses. These strong ties benefit our customers through Power Electronics having direct channels to commercial support technical support, quality and R&D design.

Our Frontline Staff

Mark Duncan - Managing Director, has been selling AC motor control equipment in NZ for more than 25 years. Mark has a solid technical electrical background, has a broad understanding of all applications and can service the products he sells. He has a strong focus on solar, battery energy storage and electricity network power quality matters.

Brent Sheridan - Operations Director, has a diverse background of knowledge acquired in motor control applications and industrial automation, having sold AC motor control equipment both in NZ and internationally for more than 27 years. Brent can also engineer and service what he sells. He has a strong focus on utility scale solar and battery energy storage solutions.

Andy Buckley - Engineering Manager, has vast experience in all aspects of motor control, gained from years of specialist engineering in this field.
Andy has been with Power Electronics for more than 15 years and is a guru not only on the application of AC motor control but also all forms of bus communications, harmonics, power factor and software development.

Pat O’Dea - National Sales Manager, has years of heavy industrial electrical experience as both hands on and in management roles. Pat has held the position of engineering manager for a large manufacturing plant so knows that not all breakdowns are electrical! He also has a sound understanding of the network utility industry having worked in this sector for a number of years. Pat is responsible for heading up the national sales team for our AC motor control and Power Quality ranges.

Jason Curtis - Renewables Support Engineer, brings his industrial electrical skills into an engineering support role. Jason provides pre-sales support, after sales engineering support, installation advice and commissioning support for our utility scale solar and battery energy storage projects. He has many years of experience in AC motor control and power quality support too, making him a very well rounded support engineer that customers can rely on.

Andrew Sadgrove - Sales Engineer (S.I), brings with him expertise from Australia’s Iron Ore industry in both maintenance and planning roles. He understands the requirements for continuous plant operation through reactive and preventative maintenance. Andrew has had some solid exposure with various variable speed drive applications.

Jake O’Herlihy - Sales Engineer (N.I), hails from an industrial electrical background and has previously been a field application engineer, designing and delivering electrical/SCADA preventive maintenance schedules for local councils. Jake’s understanding of how variable speed drives must work in with SCADA and control systems provides our customers with added knowledge and support through product selection and integration. He’s not just a brown box sales guy!

Darren Greetham - Industrial Support Technician, hails from Sheffield, England where he has many years experience as an industrial electrician. He has solid experience in the construction, controls design, panel wiring, site commissioning and after sales technical support of industrial equipment. Darren provides phone support, after sales service and conducts onsite power quality audits. He is the go to man who can provide over the phone commissioning and fault finding support when you’re standing there in front of your variable speed drive tasked with the job of making it go!

Chris Hill - Sales Engineer (N.I), has an industrial electrical background. Previously, he worked as a field application engineer, where he provided support and expertise in control, electrical, and SCADA operations for council water systems. Chris possesses extensive knowledge and experience in reactive/preventive maintenance and planning and brings his knowledge of integrating variable speed drives into industrial applications to our customers. He’ll talk your language with you when you deal with him!

Mike Townsend - Service Engineer, has been there done that in the industrial electrical field. He has owned his own industrial electrical service business for 23 years and worked as maintenance electrician in plants that operate 24/7 so knows the pressures of keeping a plant running. Mike services our AC motor control and power quality product ranges and can provide onsite preventative maintenance servicing too.

David Kirby - Renewables Service Engineer, is an inverter technical service specialist with more than 27 years of experience in this field. David’s knowledge has been built up through both inside service department work and field service work. He has a strong understand of the NZ electricity distribution business too. He provides planned maintenance and after sales breakdown support along with installation support and project delivery for our solar, battery energy storage and EDB customers.
