SD500 StartStop 0 20mA Analogue

This setup is for using start/stop commands by the input terminals, and speed reference for the drive by analogue input.

The SD500 series of VSDs have a very simplistic keypad and screen to use, to familiarize yourself with all the functions the SD500 can offer, please refer to the programming and software manual.

Firstly, wire and connect into the I/O terminals the required start/stop input and the speed reference analogue input. The analogue shown here is a 0 to 20 million referenced from a pressure or flow instrument.

Be sure to add a link from 5G to CM - drives up to 22 kilowatts require this.

Once you have confirmed your wiring into the I/O terminals is correct, you must ensure that motors are isolated from accidental starting before power up of the drive.
On power up, as a good rule of thumb, it is a good idea to reinitialize the drive.
This ensures that the drive is back to its original default settings: Group 1 G1.5.

Group 2 – Motor Name Plate Parameters

Setting of the motor name plate is the first parameter to be added.
This ensures that the motor is protected correctly and the RPM is correct into the drive: Group 2 G2.2

Keypad Navigation Tips

To enter a group, press the star key.
To scroll, press the minus or plus key.
To enter new parameters, press and hold the star key, pressing the plus or minus key to enter your new parameter
To move around groups, press the minus or plus key accordingly.

Move now to group 3 references: in this group, you select where your speed reference is to come from, so for this setup we change ref speed from default local to AI2 analogue input 2 which is the 0 - 20 milliamp setting.

Group 4.1.1 – Programming required Control Mode

Move now to group 4.1.
In 4.1.1 we now need to select the control mode.
For our setup, default is number 1 remote which is correct.
The drive is operated through the input terminals.

Group 4.1.3 – Programming required Digital Inputs

Now scroll down to 4.1.3.  Default here is also start plus which is correct for our setup.

G4.3 - Analogue Input 2

In this group scaling of the analogue can be performed if required.
G 4.3.2 default is 4 milliamps.
G4.3.3 default is zero percent.
G4.3.4 default is 20 milliamps.
G4.3.5 default here is 100 percent.
G4.3.7 maximum frequency of analogue input 2.

To ensure your analogue is working correctly, we can show this in the visualization screens.
Press and hold the ESC key to jump up to the visualization lines.
Press the star and scroll through using the plus or minus keys to the required groups.

You can now see in the visualization screen your 0 – 20 millamp values moving up and down; your analogue is working correctly.

There are other visual statuses you can bring up too for example, input status; DI1 to DI8.

Group 5 – Acceleration and Deceleration Rates

If acceleration and deceleration rate need to changed, enter group 5.

G5.1 Acceleration rate here is 20 seconds default. Time required to reach required hertz or percentage of start-up.

G5.2 Deceleration rate - default here is 30 seconds - time from off command to 0 hertz or percentage.

Group 10: Motor Speed Limits

In this group, if you are required your motor to run above 50 hertz, the limits will need to be changed here from the default settings.

G10.1 maximum speed: Default is 50 hertz. Change this if required.
G10.5 frequency high limit - default here is 50 hertz. Change if required.

If you are happy with all your wiring to your I/O terminals and motor connections, refit the cover to the SD500 and your motor connections.

You may now start your drive by energizing digital input 1, star plus.
